Liquid vs Tablet Vitamins: Capsules, Gummies and Liposomal Compared
Share
No format is best for everyone. Tablets and capsules are cheap and familiar, gummies are easy but usually contain sugar, and liquids suit people who struggle to swallow pills. Liposomal liquids add a delivery system designed to improve absorption, with the strongest evidence so far for vitamin C.
The formats compared
| Format | How it is absorbed | Worth knowing | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tablet | Must break down in the stomach first | Often contains binders and coatings; can be large | People happy to swallow pills, on a budget |
| Capsule | Shell dissolves, then contents absorbed | Shells are often gelatin, which is not vegan | People who want a smaller, smoother pill |
| Gummy | Chewed, then absorbed like food | Usually contains sugar; lower doses per gummy | People who want convenience over potency |
| Liquid | No shell to break down | Needs measuring; check the sugar content | People who find pills hard to swallow |
| Liposomal liquid | Nutrients carried in phospholipid bubbles | Costs more; check phospholipids are listed | People who want a delivery system built for absorption |
Tablets and capsules
A tablet has to disintegrate in your stomach before its nutrients can be absorbed in your gut. Capsules dissolve faster, but the nutrients then follow the same route. Both are cheap to make, which is why most multivitamins come this way. Read the label for fillers, coatings and the capsule material: gelatin comes from animals.
Gummies
Gummies are easy and pleasant, which helps people take them every day. The trade-off is usually added sugar, and less room for active ingredients, so doses per gummy tend to be lower.
Liquid vitamins
Liquids skip the shell, are easy to adjust and are often easier for people who find tablets hard to swallow. A plain liquid still relies on normal digestion to absorb its nutrients.
Liposomal liquids
A liposomal liquid wraps each nutrient in a liposome, a tiny phospholipid bubble. A 2025 review of liposomal vitamin C found 9 out of 10 human studies showed higher bioavailability than standard vitamin C. In clinical testing, Absorble's liposomal delivery has shown up to 5x better absorption than a standard capsule. Read more in liposomal vitamins, explained.
How to choose
- If you struggle with pills, a liquid removes the main barrier.
- If you are vegan, avoid gelatin capsules and check where the vitamin D3 comes from.
- If sugar matters to you, check the label on gummies and liquids.
- Whatever the format, pick one you will actually take every day. Consistency matters more than the perfect product.
Where Absorble fits
